A snail that defied all onlookers. The achievement of the century.

The snail known as Tuck has been deemed “the snail that lived” as he has been able to survive in the harsh environment of a highschool locker since Canadian thanksgiving. He is still living to this day - as of now, is June 7th, 2006. As GProgress members slowly began to lose sanity as a result of having second period lunch (9:30 AM - 10:50 AM) they looked for new sources of entertainment. Eventually sitting at a windowsill for 75 minutes had lost its appeal. So Daniel and I went walking down by the creek just outside our school.

This is where we came across Tuck.

I picked up Tuck, after which we decided that he would be our pet. Tuck’s first residence was a Tim Hortons coffee cup (medium possibly a double double). After a week passed Tuck was upgraded to a Gatorade bottle filled with water. On a sidenote we discovered that snails have the ability to float and to sink. Anyway, Tuck’s life has been pretty good except for the fact that he has lived solely on water and possibly math homework for over six months! The scariest moment in Tuck’s life was about a month after his initial capture; I believed that Tuck was dead. However Daniel convinced me to not throw the corpse of the snail in the garbage, but instead to put Tuck into the Gatorade bottle for one last swim. Miraculously Tuck was revived as he climed the lid of the bottle the next morning. Ever since then Tuck has had no near death experiences and has lived a simple, yet peaceful life in a locker dedicated to him and rollerblades. It has been questioned if in fact Tuck is immortal because of his ability to live with no food.

Of course, we had to show off our medical wonder to neighbours and friends alike. Everyone commented on how cruel it is to keep a snail in a locker. But think of this: if we hadn’t of taken him in, he’d of died from the cold, or by being crushed. We saved him, and have given him a warm place to stay. He should be thanking us in his high pitched, snail voice.
